The Sri Maha Bodhi is a sacred bodhi tree and is central to Anuradhapura in both a spiritual and physical sense. It was grown from a cutting brought from Bodhgaya in India and is said to be the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world. Marvel at the stunning structure as you witness thousands of devotees come to make offerings, particularly on poya (full moon) days and weekends.

This art is popularly seen in areas such as Ahangama, Koggala, Welipenna, Kathaluwa and Thalarambe. From a list of 'things to do' in Sri Lanka, travelers often include stilt fishing as an excellent opportunity to test their skills. A narrow pole is tied to a stick that is anchored on the sea bed. Fisher folk climb onto this stick and settle on the pole for a few hours in an effort to catch some fish.
